TeXShop 5.59
Released:
The first release following Richard Koch’s handover of TeXShop development. These changes build on TeXShop 5.58 Golden Gate.
PDF preview
- Add an Appearance menu to the preview toolbar with System, Light, and Dark choices. The selected mode is retained between launches.
- Keep the zoom indicator in sync with trackpad pinch gestures and preserve manual zoom when reloading a PDF.
- Correct the initial page position and the placement of selection overlays, magnifiers, and link previews.
- Restore the preview when a successful compilation follows one that produced an invalid PDF.
- Work around a PDFKit/Metal rendering crash on macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Editing and interface
- Fix document-window loading failures on older macOS versions by creating HTML preview views at runtime.
- Fix a syntax-highlighting range error that could cause a crash when persistent highlighting is enabled.
- Align spaces, full-width spaces, tabs, and line-break markers with the text baseline.
- Correct toolbar item sizing and Preferences layouts and fonts across localizations.
- Support the system’s filename suggestions for untitled documents on macOS 27.
App and updates
- Update About credits to identify the current maintainer and original developer.
- Update the app icon to follow the rounded-square icon design guidelines introduced in macOS Tahoe.
- Make the Spotlight importer native on Apple Silicon while retaining Intel support.
- Update Sparkle to 2.10.1 and switch to the update feed at texshop.app.
- Prevent the toolbar icon style preference from changing automatic-update settings, and correctly restore update settings when cancelling Preferences.
To upgrade from 5.58 or earlier, download and install 5.59 manually. Subsequent automatic updates use the new update feed.
